Water Usage Tips

Living in a dry forest climate means that water is a precious resource. Conserving water is crucial to ensure that there is enough for everyone and for the environment. By saving water, we can help preserve the delicate balance of the ecosystem and ensure that future generations have access to this vital resource.

Ways to save water

  • Fix any leaks

  • Check toilets and faucets for running water

  • Use water saving toilets

  • Replace shower heads with water saving heads.

  • Turn the shower off when lathering up.

  • Start cold, or fill a bucket for other use while waiting for the shower to heat up.

  • Take shorter showers.

  • Turn off the faucet when you are brushing your teeth.

  • Replace your grass with drought resistant plantings, cactus and succulents.

  • Don’t overwater plants and lawn during the dry season.

  • Let your grass brown up.

  • Use water from cleaning vegetables, etc, to water plants in the yard.

  • Flush only when necessary

  • When shaving, fill sink and rinse razor in sink rather than under running faucet.  Same with hand washing.

It’s about changing habits, so if you have to, pick one or two to start, and see what your household can do to save water!
